We are about two full weeks into the Warren Miller film tour for 2009, and Crew 2 finds ourselves in my old stomping grounds of Sun Valley, Idaho. We’ve battled brisk temperatures, snow flurries, copious amounts of $3 Kokanee, and thanks to the close proximity of natural Idaho hot spring pools, our little foursome is well on our way to achieving ‘MossMan‘ status.
It was great playing shows in the same theater in which I grew up watching Warren Miller films throughout my formative years. The Sun Valley Opera House is an old building, erected soon after the resort’s opening in 1939. It has since welcomed thousands upon thousands of happy fans of Warren Miller films over the years. And in such an historic setting, we even had the pleasure of meeting Helen Kolouch. Helen told us she had attended the very first screening of Warren’s first film in the Opera House 60 years ago. She was escorted by her son, who like me had seen the majority of his WM films in the one room theater. Shaking her hand, I couldn’t help but feel the energy of that golden age of ski bumming coursing through her veins.
It’s now Halloween, and here are some of the crew members ideas for costumes:
* Will Cheng – Aspenite
* Ian Froedesen – Benjamin Franklin
* Justin Dersham – Purple Rain
* Chris Tatsuno – Ghengis Khan
…as you can see, the 2009 Ketchum, Idaho Halloween street festival has a whirlwind of awesomeness headed its way. Pictures will only tell the story…soon to come!!
