Tats with R.Burks
Tats here…we ran our first showing of the Warren Miller film last night in Tigard, OR. The movie played in the Deb Fennell Auditorium at the Tigard High School, where one of the athletes in the film (Sammy Carlson) is a recent graduate.
Since Sammy has a small part in the film, I felt a little more pressure to put on a good show for his hometown crowd. I mean, even his mom was in the audience!
However, things don’t always go as planned, especially for a ski bum hosting a big-time ski flick. I absolutely nailed my introduction speech, and walked off stage with my heart all-a-flutter as the movie began behind me.
As the intermission dropped in, things took a turn for the confusing. I have never done a prize giveaway before, and it was probably the only part of my MC script that I hadn’t practiced…oops! As I got into the prize giveaway and brought a few kids on stage to help pick the winners, I quickly realized my lack of preparation as all eyes were on me and my fumbling of papers, prize backpacks and fleeces, and kids running around on stage.
Yet, as the consummate professional that I am, I reigned in those rambunctious young’uns and called out some lucky winners all to the laughter and enjoyment of the audience, at my expense. Oh well, as they say in show business, “everybody gets one.” Backstage, I gulped down some water from my
Backcountry Goat Klean Kanteen and chalked it all up to experience.
So, wish me luck on my second attempt at showing the film tonight, as our four-man crew heads into Corvallis, OR, home of OSU and hopefully some crazy ski fans!
