Chasing Pink Tats Tour: Fly Fridays with Jonny Klemchuk
A good friend came to town and we did how Aspen does: ski, apres, party, sleep...repeat. Jonny Klemchuk (@JonnyKlemchuck) was only in town for a couple of days, so we took advantage of sunny skies and warm temps to have a lil costume fun on the hill. Reprising his original role as Buddy the Elf, Jonny found himself experiencing the allure of Aspen's frontside and even worked his way through the...
MSNBC on ‘Extreme Skiing’
There has been a rash of deaths recently, and MSNBC took on the subject in a recent airing. I'm not so sure I appreciate the term 'Death Zone', as it will only fuel the misinformation that always seems to make its way to the mainstream public. Interesting watch though: Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Gettin Deeeeep in Aspen
Winter has finally arrived with a series of small storms that have left Aspen with fantastic conditions.  Spent a few runs the other morning with the AspenSnowmass #ContentCrew and here are some quick shots from those fluffy laps.  (Photos by Jeremy Swanson)
Powder Panic
Resorts and ski areas across the country have experienced an interesting phenomenon this season: powder panic.  Now, don't get me wrong, skiers and snowboarders have always had that mob-mentality, freshies-frenzy when it comes to new snow and chairlift lines.  People have been known to shove, push, pole and also to be shoved, pushed, poled in the mess that is the rush for first chair and tha...
The Bitch is Back
La Nina has been a cold nasty lady this winter...well, at least for the shredheads in B.C burrowing through their streets en route to the snow encrusted mountaintops. We in Aspen have had it lucky.  We haven't had the slightest issue with parking in town or with having to decide if the furnace room or the fireplace is the best way to dry your ski gear. Yep, instead of shred outfit maintenance p...

Tats' Top Five: Freeskier Mag's 10 Years of Covers

Posted By: Tats on March 7, 2008 in Ski News - Comments: No Comments »

Well, another day of not slashing the snow or catching air off cattracks, and I’m barely staving off boredom. Thankfully Facebook, in all its glory, has once again come to the rescue delivering me with a few minutes of photo-filled fun! Freeskier Magazine has made available, through their namesake Facebook group, a collection of all the covers they’ve run since their inception 10 years ago. Click here to check them all out, starting with Jonny Mosely and Cindy Crawford dancing with the Stars and Stripes on the first issue. Add yourself as a fan to their group if you like what you see.

My top five (in no specific order):

Because, really, Saucerboy kept skiing the fun-filled shit-show that it really is! This cover tells it all and leaves nothing out; just look at the connoisseur’s approach to mixing snowlerblades and climbing gear, the Jack Daniels toque with the kneepads. I love it!

Henrik Windstedt is on this issue’s cover, and inside the magazine proclaims him as one of the best skiers ever. I totally agree, and after this season’s inaugural Freeride World Tour, we’re once again being treated to the Henrik show.

This cover made it in the top five, but only because it is soooo lame. Really? How can this dude even fit goggles, or even a hat, over that super-stylish hair? I’m pretty sure this guy brings his mocha latte on the gondola. He looks
like a creep. What were you thinking Freeskier??

I remember being given a free copy of Freeskier during an early fall ski and snowboard club festival back in college. There was this mohawked dude on the cover just spitting out the headlines; at first glance, I was hooked. Then I learned about twin-tips. Thanks Freeskier!

This cover just reminds me of why and how I’ve dropped everything in life in the pursuit of skiing. Pow. Pow pow pow. More pow. I want, I need, I love. Pow.
